Excerpt from pg. 266
"Frequenlty R' Yaakov Moshe consulted the chassidic book Noam Elimelech by the chassidic master Reb Elimelech of Lizhensk. Called by the initiated the sifran shel tzaddikim, or instruction manual for tzaddikim, the book hints at secrets for every soul who knows how to read in between its lines. R' Yaakov Moshe would sit and contemplate the problem the petitioners had presented. Then he would open the Noam Elimelech at random. On the page he had opened, he would find the solution to the problem.
In fact, R' Yaakov Moshe's copy of the Noam Elimelech was undoubtedly his most precious possession. During World War II, he lost all of his material possessions except his copy of the Noam Elimelech which, at great risk, he managed to save and bring with him to Plaestine. Many years later, a distressed Israeli soldier came to R' Yaakov Moshe and confessed that he was afraid to go into battle. As if it meant nothing to him, R' Yaakov Moshe gave the soldier his precious copy of the Noam Elimelech as a talisman for protection."
